An Alcohol Prevention Discussion

    * CCHS Parents, Did you know that your teen is more likely to begin
drinking alcohol in 10^th grade than in any other year in school?
According to the 2004 Youth Risk Behavior Survey results -

                                        19.9% of 8th graders
                                        20% of 9th graders
                                        38% of 10^th graders
                                       43% of 11th graders
                                        50% of 12th graders
reported having a drink of alcohol on at least one occasion during
the 30 days prior to the survey.

    * If you find that statistic alarming, please come and learn the
strategies parents can use to help your teen postpone alcohol use
      - and why this is so important!

will present research about use and its effects on teenage brains, the
sequence of initiation into and progression of use, the social and
cultural pressures students are likely to face at CCHS and in college.

Kathy Bowen, Concord Public Schools K-12 Health Curriculum Specialist
will present the incidence of use in our towns as reported on the 2004 YRBS
