Class of 2009 Updates & Reminders

See below for Pat Bentley's excellent summary of the recent Guidance 
presentation for Freshman and Sophomore parents. Thanks, Pat!

If you are planning to attend the Parent Social on Sunday night, please 
make sure to RSVP to Claudia Feeney by yesterday, or ASAP! 
(Claudia.Feeney at sanofi-aventis.com). Just to refresh your memory, the 
social is at the home of Shelley Mogil and David Storto at 357 Caterina 
Heights in Concord 978-287-5115 on Sunday January 29 from 6:30-9 
PM.  Please bring your most exotic ethnic appetizer or desserts to share. 
Beverages will be provided. The evening is very casual.

Baked goods (brownies, bars or cookies) would be appreciated for the 2009 
refreshment sale at Monday's Summer Opportunities Fair. Please email 
Claudia (Claudia.Feeney at sanofi-aventis.com) and drop off donations in the 
cafeteria at 5 - 5:15 P.M. on Monday evening. Thank you!

Dear Class of 2009 Parents:

On January 11th  Bill Yunker and Kelli Kirshtein of the CCHS Guidance 
Department presented an informative session about the four years our 
children will spend in CCHS.  They discussed:
    * Guidance Department Services
    * Graduation Requirements
    * College Planning Process and Timeline
    * College Entrance Exams (there is a new SAT)
    * Issues in Adolescent Development
  For me, the explanation of the college planning process and timeline were 
particularly useful.   It was helpful to see the overall map of these four 
years.

Kelli went over some of the issues our high school students may be facing 
and the importance of being responsive in a timely fashion.   She pointed 
out that high school is not so much a time of separation as it is a time of 
individuation.  These students are in the process of becoming who they will 
be; that doesn't necessarily mean they need to separate from us.

The CCHS Guidance Department website has been recently 
updated.  Information is presented by grade, making it easy to find what 
you need.

If you have any questions or concerns about any of these topics, please 
feel free to contact your son or daughter's counselor directly.

I would also like to remind you that course selection materials for next 
year will be provided to all CCHS students during homeroom on Friday, 
February 3rd and will be due on Friday, March 10th.  Freshmen will be 
scheduled to meet with their Guidance Counselors to discuss their course 
selections during the week of February 27th - March 3rd, which is the week 
students return from vacation.  In addition to group information, 
counselors will conference individually with each student to review his/her 
academic progress and to discuss his/her individual program for next 
year.  Please be sure to check your mail during the school vacation week 
for your son/daughter's invitation and remind them to attend this 
informative group meeting.
