An Alcohol Prevention Discussion
Monday, April 10, 2006, 7:30-9:30 PM
CCHS Auditorium
CCHS Parents,
Did you know that your teen is more likely to begin drinking alcohol in
10th grade than in any other year in school? According to the 2004
Youth Risk Behavior Survey:
- 19.9% of 8th graders ;
- 20% of 9th graders;
- 38% of 10th graders;
- 43% of 11th graders;
- 50% of 12th graders
reported having a drink of alcohol on at least one occasion during the 30
days prior to the survey.
If you find these statistics alarming, please learn the strategies parents
can use to help your teen postpone alcohol use and why this is so important!
- Renee Soulis, Senior Prevention Specialist from FCD Educational Services
will present research about use and its effects on teenage brains, the
sequence of initiation into and progression of use, the social and cultural
pressures students are likely to face at CCHS and in college.
- Kathy Bowen, Concord Public Schools K-12 Health Curriculum Specialist
will present the incidence of use in our towns as reported on the 2004 YRBS
- Barbara Howland, Director of the Alliance for Teen Safety will present
some of the community initiatives currently in place and those planned for
our towns to address use.
