Parental Spring Fling - How to School your Kids and Teens at Home
 about Alcohol and other Trends

 Tuesday, April 3, 2007 7:15-9:00PM @ CCHS Auditorium

Spring is here and with spring comes the end of the school year
parties, celebrations and proms. In our towns, our young people may
seek to enhance these experiences by taking some form of a recreational
substance (alcohol, marijuana, club drugs, heroin).

The Concord Carlisle Parents Initiative is offering this popular
presentation again to teach strategies to parents about teen alcohol
use. The presentation will include how and why it's important to
postpone and intervene and how parents may intentionally influence
their kids decisions about use from a very early age and into young
adulthood.

Renee Soulis, a Senior Prevention Specialist from FCD Educational
Services is coming back by popular demand to present research about use
and our kids. She will discuss the effects on teenage brains, the
sequence of initiation into and progression of use, the social and
cultural pressures students are likely to face in high school and
college, and offer strategies to parents for the prevention,
postponement and intervention of use.

Kathy Bowen the Concord Public School and Concord Carlisle Regional
School District K-12 Health Curriculum Specialist will present the
incidence of use in Concord and Carlisle as 6th-12th graders reported
on the Spring 2006 Youth at Risk Behavior Survey.
This Program is funded through the Northwest Suburban Health
Alliance/CHNA 15 DoN funds through Lahey Clinic.
