Dear Class 2010,

The year is off and running! Please print this email regarding recently completed events and Calendar updates. Of particular note, the Sophomore Semi has been changed to Saturday May 31, as the original date of May 3 conflicted with the Chorus Trip to FL. We are still in need of a parent chair(s) to head up this special event. As always, you should contact mary at horvaths.org if you can help. Mary does a great job of keeping track of all our volunteers as one of her many 2010 Parent Rep responsibilies. Thanks Mary.

COMPLETED EVENTS:

September 24
Back to School Night
The sale of blankets went wonderfully. Thank You to the 2010 Class Officers as well as the 2010 Class Parents who manned our booth. All the remaining blankets from last year were sold, and we decided to order another batch, with 12 advance orders already taken. So, these popular blankets will continue to be available for sale. If anyone wants one in time for the holidays (a great gift!), you may contact Joey Paleologos directly joey.paleologos at gmail.com, about getting it in time. Soon the class will also be selling long-sleeve and short-sleeve tshirts, as well as flip flops.

September 29
Freshman/Sophomore Dance
This dance was a success, raising about $1000 for our class. A huge Thank You to all the teachers and parents who chaperoned!! (it takes a lot of chaperones for a dance -- 16 total). Congratulations to the 2010 Class Officers for organizing this dance so well.

Additional Thanks:

Planner Sales - This fundraiser has been wonderful for our class, raising close to $7000 this year alone! It was started six years ago by Kathy Sullivan. Class2010 picked up this fundraiser through the efforts of Linda Fabrizio, who had previously been a helper to Kathy and now Chairs this effort. Our class owes a big thanks to Linda and all her committee: Lisa Harris, Cheryl Lou, Beth Clark, Bernadette LeBlanc, Sarah Beguelin, Sally Williams, Marcy Guttadauro, and Kathy Sullivan. They order 800 planners to sell to students, teachers & parents, incorporating useful CCHS information into the planner and selling ads to companies that support the students. Most of the planners are snatched up via pre-orders (form goes home in back-to-school packets) with any remaining planners sold during the first days of school. Linda reports, "This year's sale was very successf ul and we thank everyone that contributed towards it. We couldn't have done this without the support of our vendor
s who purchased ads and the families that purchased these planners."

Town Meeting Refreshments - Last spring, Beth Barnes headed up a team of students selling refreshments at Concord Town Meeting, raising $450! Her student helpers included Katherine Barnes, Anya Bounar and Meredith Lorch. Beth has signed on to continue this effort into the new school year -- thank you so much. There is an upcoming Concord Town Meeting for which she is currently assembling her team -- see below. Students receive community service.

2010 ListServe - Thank you to all those who have helped pass on word to our unsubcribed class members. There are no more hard copies of information going to families from CCHS. Everything is on email. With over 20% of the Class of 2010 still not subscribed, many families are missing out on important information about their children and activities in which they could participate, both school-wide as well as within the Class of 2010. Inclusion and participation benefits everyone in the class, as well as the school. Your continued support is appreciated as we strive towards a goal of 100% participation.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS (revised Oct07):

Parent Socials
Geeta & B.C. Krishna have kindly offered to host a winter Parent Social at their home. Stay tuned for the date to be announced soon. We hope to add one or two additional social activities this year for 2010 Parents. If you enjoy parties and are a social planner type, please consider getting involved in this fun way. Parent Reps Debbi Verano debbiv1 at mindspring.com and Peggy Burling pburling at verizon.net are coordinating. The more we parents get to know each other, the smoother all our 2010 class events will be for the remaining CCHS years.

November 2
Class 2010 Movie Night
This is for Sophomores only. Unlike dances, tickets WILL be available at the door. Ticket sales will start ~ 6pm for a 7pm movie start time. Please plan to purchase your ticket no later than 6:45pm. Either one or two movies will be shown (in the cafeteria and/or gym). Jill Curry and Erin Davis will be Teacher Chaperones, and 3 or 4 parent chaperones are also needed for this event. So far, Simone Taylor and Suzie Weaver have offered to chaperone. We still need 1 or 2 more parents, and we are also looking for parents to supply snacks (popcorn and water).

Nov 5 (possibly also Nov 6)
Concord Town Meeting Food Sales
Beth Barnes is heading up this effort once again this year. She will run two shifts 5:30-7:15pm and 7:15-9pm. She will be signing up students for both nights if it looks like the Town Meeting could possibly be carried over to a 2nd night. She is all set for parent help, with herself and husband Jim Barnes, as well as Bernadette Derosiers-LeBlanc. But she needs more student helpers to join Katherine Barnes & Jack Winter. Interested students should contact Beth directly bbarnes26 at hotmail.com

November 9
Tailgate Party
Please note this is a Friday night (not a Saturday as mistakenly printed in the CCHS Oct newsletter). Anyone willing to help out with this event, please contact one of the 2010 Class Officers or Parent leaders Sue Bumpus suebumpus at comcast.net and Janice Battle <beyondgarden at aol.com> The class supplies drinks, and attendees are asked to bring an appetizer or dessert to share (alphabetically assigned).

November 13
Info Session for Parents of New or Soon-to-be Drivers
7:30pm in CCHS Library. Nancy James, a Concord Insurance Agent, together with Scott Camillieri, Concord Police CCHS Security Officer, will host this information session. Discussion of driving responsibilities and issues, aimed at keeping our young drivers safe.

December 3
Student fundraiser selling flip flops during the day. Students and their teacher advisors will run this event.

December 6
Conference Day & Student Fundraiser (selling tshirts, flipflops, blankets).
Thanks to parents Clare Matthews and Simone Taylor for stepping forward to supervise this!

January 23
Sophomore Parent Meeting with CCHS Guidance.
This is an annual meeting for sophomore parents in which Guidance focuses on developmental factors affecting student achievement and a timeline for the college planning process.

January 28
Student fundraiser at the Summer Opportunity Fair.
Thank you to parent Faith Bade for offering to help with this event!

Weekend of February 8
Ski Trip, probably to Stowe. Requires parent and teacher chaperones. We need a 10:1 student to adult ratio. It involves only 1 night, not 2. So far, we have 5 chaperones for the ski trip, but we could use more.

February 29
Dance or Movie Night.
Requires parent chaperones. So far, George Carrette has offered to chaperone.

NEW DATE = May 31 (previous date May 5 conflicted with Chorus trip to FL)
Sophomore Semi
This event will require at least one chairperson and possibly more. For some, it is the big event of sophomore year. So far, many parents have offered to help with this event, but we are still seeking a chairperson. With so many able people willing to help, the chairperson's job should be much easier , so please volunteer to chair this special dance!
