Special Admissions Programs for Students and Parents
Boston University College of Engineerings 18th Annual Design Competition will be held on Sunday May 30, 2008 at Boston University. The Design Competition involves teams of two students, both of whom must be high school freshmen, sophomores, or juniors at the time of competition. Each team will design and build a vehicle that will, under its own power, move & perform tasks within a set time period. A registration fee of $25 must be submitted by mid May
Suggestion: Because of the popularity of this program contestants should enroll in this competition as early as possible.

Iowa Private College Week August 4 to 8, 2008 is sponsored by the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and
Universities. Each college will host two admissions programs per day thus enabling students and parents to visit two colleges per day. Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI - will host a number of admissions programs for students and parents in June, July, & August, 2008. Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY will be hosting a number of summer Campus Days (Mini OH Programs) during the months of July 11 & 18 and August 1 & 8, 2008. Mass Maritime Academy -- Sea, Science & Leadership Program 2008 --
2008 Program attendees will participate in much of the same hands-on training that Mass maritime cadets experience including Sailing, Firefighting, Emergency Disaster Management, Engineering and Navigation. The 2008 Program will be limited to 120 students selected to attend. Registration information is available on the accompanying website www.maritime.edu
Actors Workshop, 10 Ridgemont St., Allston, MA 02110 -- (617) 504-4914 During the summer 2008 The Actors Workshop will offer the following acting classes ; Teens, Adult, Beginning Acting, Intermediate Acting, Advanced Acting & Production, Teen Film Program, Beginning Film Acting. Classes are being held; full and part time, day, night and on Saturdays. There will be two Open House Program during the middle of May. There is usually an afternoon program and an evening program. The theatre is a wonderful experience for a student to develop poise and communication skills which are essential in an interview situation. This
program is highly recommended by College Impressions for students who are preparing to apply to and interview at colleges. This could be a great way to spend a summer and to prepare to present yourself for college interviews. For details call (617) 504-4914
High School Studies Program (HSSP) , MIT Educational Studies Program, Summer 2008 The MIT staff, students and alumni have organized a summer program of courses for high school students. These offerings are courses which would not occur in secondary school curriculum. They are entirely enrichment courses java programming, relativity, improve acting, astronomy, etc. The program normally runs from late in June through late August. The fee is minimal and courses are held at a very convenient time.

Creative Vacation, for grades 4 12, is a two week program with a morning and an afternoon option which takes place from July 7 18, 2008. Application Deadline: No deadline Cost: Half day, $575 Full day $1,150

Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA Pre-College Program, July 7 to August 1, 2008
The program is designed to help the participant evaluate a career in the arts and to develop a portfolio suitable for college admissions. The program is primarily for all secondary students. Participating students will receive 120 hours in an intensive four week session. All students will attend a Foundation Drawing class as well as three elective classes (choice of three of the following: Painting, Photography Printmaking, Sculpture, Oil Painting, Mixed Media, Computer Art & Design, Illustration) Pre-College students who reside in Montserrats housing will enjoy the benefits of living in a community of other artists their own age. Rochester Inst. of Technology, Rochester, NY will host a College & Careers Exposition on July 18-19 and August 1& 2, 2008.
The program is designed for students who will be entering their senior year of high school in the fall of 2005. Participants will explore career options through personal experience, including demonstrations and discussions. Working with R.I.T. students and faculty, participants will use the R.I.T. state-of-the art facilities and Technology to help get started in making choices for their future.
In addition participants will experience life as a college student. Sleeping in the residence halls, eating in the student cafeteria, and on Friday night social activities with college bound high school seniors. Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY will be hosting students for campus visits this summer, during the months of July and August. The program is 2.5 hours in length and includes an information session presented by a counselor and a student-guided campus tour. Students and their families do need to pre-register- because this is an extremely popular program. It is recommended that prospective students/parents call at least 2 weeks in advance. Recognition Nomination Awards The Wendys High School Heisman Scholarship Athletic Citizenship Selection papers are being sent to high school principals, guidance directors, and athletic directors. Each year Wendys Old Fashion Hamburger Restaurants team up with the NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals) and the Downtown Athletic Club to honor both male and female high school scholars-athlete-citizens. Students who participate in a varsity or individual and team sports are eligible, however, the awards criteria are based on three equally considered areas: academic excellence, community service, and athletic achievement. Nominations must emanate from the office of the principal or his/her designee. This is a prestigious award and one to be actively pursued. Nomination forms must be returned early in September, 2008.

Lindenwood College in Missouri accepts hogs in trade for tuition. Six families have swapped swine for an education that costs more than $11,000 a year. President Dannis Spellman, who sees barter as a viable way to battle a sagging economy and keep students in school, says hes open to trading anything the college can use.
