SCHOOL: CONCORD-CARLISLE HIGH SCHOOL Hoby Seminar @ Bentley College June 12-14, 2008
Dear Sophomore,
Filling out this student worksheet could be the beginning of a fun and exciting learning experience. Last year, more than 7,500 sophomores - tomorrow's leaders-participated in the Hugh O'Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminars throughout the 50 United States and Canada. HOBY-style programs also take place in Hong Kong, Israel and Mexico. All 10th graders are eligible, and we encourage you to apply!
ABOUT HOBY: HOBY has conducted annual seminars since 1958. During these seminars, 10th graders have the opportunity to meet, interact with, and question regionally, nationally and internationally renowned leaders. HOBY Leadership Seminars are three to four day weekend events held each spring.
HOBY's purpose is to bring together a select group of high school sophomores who have demonstrated leadership ability so that they can interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education, and the professions to discuss present and future issues. The informal question-and-answer formats during these seminars meet HOBY's Specific goals to:
* Seek out, recognize, and develop leadership potential commencing with high school sophomores;
* Encourage and assist students in their quest for self-development and self-identification;
* Introduce tomorrow's leaders to today's recognized leaders through informal give-and-take discussions on a variety of current and critical topics; and
* Provide through this exposure the opportunity to explore free enterprise and community service.
SELECTION:
All sophomores are eligible to apply. HOBY is truly a FUN, life-motivating experience. Your school's designated selection committee will choose one student and one alternate student to represent your school at your local HOBY leadership seminar, based on your leadership ability, sensitivity to others, and desire to communicate your knowledge to your peers.
If you are selected as your school's HOBY Ambassador you will be guaranteed a reservation to attend the weekend seminar in your area, to be conducted between mid March and Mid June, 2009.
