Class of 2012 Parents:

The following notice was sent out to the Class of 2011 earlier this week. It is self-explanatory; the significant point is that the 2012 Class would be the first class to be affected during its Junior year. Please read it thru and send any and all input to Betsy Yamron at BLYAMRON at aol.com<mailto:BLYAMRON at aol.com>. Betsy will be attending the meeting on the 24th and will summarize the input from the 2012 Class.

Thanks,
Class of 2012 Parent Reps

Subject: [CCHS-2011] Information from 2011 Parent Reps about future proms at CCHS

November 17, 2008

Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2011,

We'd like to inform you that a recommendation has been made to Principal Peter Badalament to transition from separate Junior and Senior Proms to a single, larger Prom that combines juniors and seniors.

This would begin with the senior year of our/your Class of 2011. Under the current proposal, the junior class would schedule and plan the combined prom, while both classes would contribute funds. The impact of this choice would be:

 1. A much larger event for both the Junior and Senior Classes.
 2. The Senior Prom, currently the major event of Senior Week, would be replaced with something low key, probably held at the school.
Reasons for this discussion include:

1. A desire to scale back prom-specific student fund raising activities: The amount of money a class contributes to offset prom ticket prices can vary quite a bit.

2. Lower the personal cost to families, especially for those whose students attend two proms in a single year.

3. Reduce the number of faculty chaperones needed.

Three options are being considered as part of this discussion: (1) change nothing; (2) scale down in some way; or (3) change the current structure of the Junior Prom, Senior Prom, and perhaps Sophomore Semi.

Peter Badalament has scheduled a meeting with teacher and parent class advisors for November 24 at 2:30 in Room A-7. Please feel free to communicate your thoughts to us, the Parent Reps, or to attend the meeting yourself. This decision could be made very quickly.

If you have questions, comments, and/or suggestions please forward to Jill Robitaille (jb.robitaille at verizon.net<mailto:jb.robitaille at verizon.net>) and/or Karen Barton (KarenABarton at aol.com<mailto:KarenABarton at aol.com>).

Thank you,
Class of 2011 Parent Reps
