*EVENT REMINDERS AND A THANK YOU!*

*Back to School Night*

Thursday 24 September

7:00PM in the CCHS auditorium

Parents have the opportunity to experience their student's schedule and meet
the teachers. This night you walk in your student’s shoes, going from
classroom to classroom, getting to hear each of your student’s teachers
briefly describe his/her expectations for the class. We meet in the
auditorium for a short welcome and explanation of the evening. Then parents
follow their student’s schedule. Remember to bring that schedule and your
map of CCHS!

Be sure to pick up your copy of Connections – the CCHS directory of
students. And don’t forget to stop by the Class of 2013 table where we will
be selling CCHS clothing: t-shirts, boxers and flannel pants. These are
very popular with kids and adults – think about doing your birthday and
holiday shopping early this year!

Those of you who attended know that it was very helpful to hear from CCHS
administrators, guidance counselors and students. We gained some insights
around what our students are experiencing at the high school and the
resources available to them.

>From the administrators we learned that the curriculum is strong, designed
to make sure our students can succeed on whatever path they choose after
CCHS. Students can get assistance from their teachers, the guidance
counselors and the school adjustment counselors. Our students appreciate
having many adult mentors interested in them. There are also many options
for getting involved: clubs, sports, the arts.

>From the students we learned that teachers are available before, during and
after school for help. There are resource centers in specific curriculum
areas to provide even more support. They spoke candidly about homework
patterns and their balance of school work, activities and the social aspects
of their lives. They confirmed that it’s important to get enough sleep and
explained that even with clubs and sports homework is manageable.

Many thanks to those who spoke:

Alan Weinstein, Assistant Principal

Kelli Kirshtein, School Adjustment Counselor

Rachele Brown, Guidance Counselor

Hillary Cook, Jackie Trudeau, Celeste Hall, the student panel

Beth Holmes, Chair of Parent Reps for Class of 2013

And our thanks also to those who worked behind the scenes to make the
evening run smoothly:

Alison Furey, Chair of Counseling Department;

Bonnie Sellew and Laura Schofield, Parent Reps for Class of 2013
