Hello to All,

Just a note to let you know that next week at CCHS is Health Awareness
Week. During that week there are many presentations, speakers, and other
opportunities for students (and staff) to learn more about a very wide
variety of health related issue. Teachers have had a chance to register a
class for whatever presentation they would like to attend. Students with
free blocks and/or study halls may attend. Every day during lunch times in
the cafeteria there will be informational tables and/or interactive
demonstrations. While no student could possibly attend all that is
offered, we hope that all students will be able to benefit from the week
in some way.

There are also two assemblies which are required. On Tuesday (C2) there
is an assembly in the auditorium for all seniors. This assembly is a
social issue performance by the Improbable Players, a professional touring
group. The topic for that assembly is Teen relationships. On Thursday (G4)
there is a mandatory assembly for juniors. Boys and girls will attend
separate assemblies conducted by doctors from the local hospital to
address gender specific health issues.

I'd like you to know that Health Awareness Week is a community effort
planned by the Health Board. The presentations are supported by the
Parents Association, SADD, the Concord Ed Fund, the Alliance for Teen
Safety, Hadassah, the American Dairy Council, and the Network for Women's
Lives. The presenters include doctors, nurses, dieticians, and other
professionals. Highlighting the Community aspect is an evening
presentation at 7PM on October 22. As basis for his talk, noted author Dr.
Anthony Wolfe will use his most recent book, Get Out of My Life But First
Could You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall? A Guide to the New Teenager.
I hope that this presentation, which is sponsored by the Center for
Parents and Teachers, will be well attended. Dr. Wolfe is an excellent,
entertaining speaker with a very real message that can benefit all of us,
including students.

I am sending this message on behalf of the Health Board which includes
Kathy Bowen, Karen Bushey, Chris DeBruzzi, Kelli Kirshtein, Nancy Slocum,
and myself with significant help from my Administrative Intern, Jennifer
Gerfen, this Fall.
