The CCHS Outdoor Club is an organization created by, run by, and organized
by CCHS students (with Laurie Giunta as Faculty Advisor to oversee each
activity). The club organizes trips such as hiking, rock climbing,
whitewater rafting, skiing, and camping, and participates in community
service events. This year, in addition to monthly trips, the CCHS Outdoor
Club is planning a trip to the Grand Canyon during April vacation. For all
trips, participation is open to any student at CCHS. If you or your child
might be interested in finding out more about the different trips the
Outdoor Club offers, please see Ms. Giunta in the Math office or email her
(lgiunta at colonial.net).
++++++++++ IT'S 11 AM. DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILD IS? +++++++++++++++
Please note the following concerning off-campus privileges:
1. ONLY SENIORS AND SECOND SEMESTER JUNIORS ARE ALLOWED OFF CAMPUS, and
then only if they, and their parents, have signed a consent form. The
disciplinary consequences for breaking this rule can be severe -- not to
mention the possibly worse nondisciplinary consequences. In an emergency at
CCHS, rescue personnel will have no way to determine whether your child is
safe or at risk if they don't know where your child is.
2. Parents of students who DO have off-campus privileges should make sure
they have a copy of their student's schedule at home, and another one at
work or in a briefcase. In case of an emergency -- if the school should be
evacuated, for example -- parents can inform first-responders of the
probable whereabouts of their kids. Parents can't expect school
administrators to be able to tell firefighters who is in Physics and who is
probably at Starbucks. (Knowing where your child is during the day also may
provide you with some peace of mind.)
Please note this as well: It is illegal for kids with less than six months'
driving experience to be driving non-sibling passengers. Several ugly
accidents involving underage drivers and their passengers have occurred in
the last year or so in Massachusetts. Don't let your child be tomorrow's
headline.
