+++++ IEP WORKSHOP +++++
The Sudbury and Concord Special Education Advisory Councils (SSEAC and SPED
PAC) invite parents of children with disabilities to attend a workshop on
Individual Education Programs (IEPs), Monday, November 22, from 7 to 9 p.m.
in the Goodnow Library, 21 Concord Road, Sudbury. Every child with a
disability who receives special education services must have an Individual
Education Plan (IEP). Donna Murphy, an experienced special education
advocate and Federation for Children with Special Needs trainer, will take
parents step by step through the development of the IEP, explaining how to
articulate a vision, use evaluations to write annual measurable goals, and
measure your child's progress. (The term IEP describes both the TEAM meeting
and the written description of the child's program. If your child already
has an IEP, bring it with you to the workshop.) For directions to Goodnow
Library, go to http://www.town.sudbury.ma.us/mapnav/goodnow.asp.
+++++ VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CCHS FEASIBILITY STUDY COMMITTEE +++++
The Regional School Committee invites all interested citizens to submit
their names to serve on a Concord-Carlisle High School Feasibility Study
Committee. The Feasibility Study will be an extension of previous work, and
will include a full analysis of all systems in the building, as well as an
examination of the cost differential to build a new building. The final work
will be the basis of the request for design funds for future building or
renovations at CCHS. Of particular interest would be citizens who have a
background in building or finance. The study will be completed by June 2005,
but your assistance in educating the community would extend through next
year. If you are interested, please submit your name by November 20, via
email to the Ripley administrative offices at lpalmaccio at colonial.net with
the subject line "CCHS study project." Please include your name, address,
phone number, email address, background, and why you are interested in
serving. Thank you.
+++++ GRAND CANYON APPLICATIONS DUE THIS MONTH +++++
For those of you interested in taking a trip to the Grand Canyon during
April vacation, you need to sign up soon! In order to reserve your spot, you
must apply for the trip and put down a $100 deposit by the end of November.
Yes, the end of this month! Information on how to apply can be found on the
info. and application sheet that is on the Outdoor Club bulletin board
(outside the Math office, room S-23). You can actually reserve your spot and
send your application in on line, but you need to do it soon! $100 now
reserves your spot and the remaining balance will be due by the end of
January. Anyone who signs up after the November 30 deadline may have to pay
an additional $75 fee, so don't wait. If you have any questions, see Ms.
Giunta in the math department or email her at lgiunta at colonial.net.
+++++ ELEVENTH ANNUAL SPELLING BEE +++++
Mark your calendars now for the Eleventh Annual Concord Education Fund
Spelling Bee and Silent Auction, Saturday, November 20, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
in the CCHS auditorium. Your friends and neighbors, teachers, students, CCHS
Principal Art Dulong, Concord schools Superintendent Brenda Finn,
firefighters, police officers, postal workers, business owners, selectmen,
School Committee and Finance Committee members, and many more will strive to
outspell each other in a spirit of fun and hilarity, all with the goal of
raising monies for the Concord Education Fund. Jere Mead, CCHS Latin teacher
and member of the 1998 Spelling Bee Championship team, will moderate the
event. Plan to come to test your skill, to catch up with friends and
neighbors, and to support fundraising for programs at Concord Public Schools
and Concord-Carlisle High School.
Bid on Silent Auction items, such as Principal Art Dulong's parking space
for a day, Red Sox and Patriots tickets, a college prep class, vacation
getaways, birthday parties, dinners, and much more! Pizza, drinks, and
desserts will also be available in the Education Fund Cafe! Here's a great
way to blend a family night out, do some early shopping for the holidays,
and most importantly support the Concord Education Fund, which awards grants
for innovative curricula and projects that provide academic enrichment at
all levels of our public schools, including Concord-Carlisle High School.
+++++ TEACHER APPRECIATION DINNER +++++
On Thursday, December 2, a dinner will be served to all the teachers and
staff in the faculty dining room during the evening of the teacher
conference day from 4:45 to 7 p.m. Parent volunteers decorate the dining
room and set up a hot meal which is served in two seatings during the
scheduled dinner breaks. Volunteers can participate by agreeing to prepare
food at home (state law does not permit use of the school kitchen), shop for
food and paper goods, set up, serve, or clean up (or any combination of
these). Each year we also request donations of baked goods and treats for
every teacher to take home. Interesting ideas have been honey with tea, a
coffee card in a commuter mug, jars of candy, baked breads, jams with
crackers, cheeses, even whole pies! We encourage parents to send thank you
cards and notes as well. We cannot guarantee that a specific teacher will
get your item but an appreciative teacher or administrator will. If you
would like to help in any of the ways described, please contact Kate Bird at
978-369-0100 or birds.house4 at verizon.net, Anita Tekle at
atekle at concordnet.org, or Janet Lipkin at joylip at comcast.net at as soon as
possible.
+++++ HYPNOTIC EVENT +++++
Come see renowned hypnotist Russ Burgess in the upper gym at CCHS on
Saturday, November 20, at 7 p.m., as he demonstrates ESP and hypnotism. Be
amazed as he gets students and teachers to do things they never thought they
would or could do! Russ has convinced college students around the coutnry to
"walk on the moon." He can persuade his subjects that the room is too hot,
too cold, or even that the audience is naked! Bring a friend, bring your
family! Tickets will be on sale during lunch blocks November 17 through 19.
YES... the Concord Ed Fund Spelling Bee and the Hypnotist are on the same
evening -- Saturday, November 20 -- and both are at CCHS. Come one, come
all, come early, stay late, enjoy two great events at the same time!
