+++++ IEP WORKSHOP +++++

The Sudbury and Concord Special Education Advisory Councils (SSEAC and SPED
PAC) invite parents of children with disabilities to attend a workshop on
Individual Education Programs (IEPs), Monday, November 22, from 7 to 9 p.m.
in the Goodnow Library, 21 Concord Road, Sudbury. Every child with a
disability who receives special education services must have an Individual
Education Plan (IEP). Donna Murphy, an experienced special education
advocate and Federation for Children with Special Needs trainer, will take
parents step by step through the development of the IEP, explaining how to
articulate a vision, use evaluations to write annual measurable goals, and
measure your child's progress. (The term IEP describes both the TEAM meeting
and the written description of the child's program. If your child already
has an IEP, bring it with you to the workshop.) For directions to Goodnow
Library, go to http://www.town.sudbury.ma.us/mapnav/goodnow.asp.

+++++ MEET NEW SPED DIRECTOR +++++

The Concord Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SPED PAC) is
hosting two coffees to welcome Jessica Murphy as Concord Public Schools' and
CCHS's new Director of Special Education, K-12. Come meet Jessica and listen
as she outlines her goals for the upcoming year and shares her experiences
with special education. She welcomes your questions. The coffees will be
held on Monday, November 29, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ripley Building,
Room 1, and on Tuesday, November 30, in the Peabody Forum from 9:30 to 10:30
a.m. PAC business meetings will take place before the evening coffee,
November 29, at 6:30 p.m., and after the morning coffee, November 30, at
10:30 a.m. Please come and provide input to your PAC. (For a full listing of
school SPED PAC liaisons and contact information, visit
www.concordspedpac.org and click on "Concord SPED PAC" under "Who's Who."

+++++ HYPNOTIC SPELLING BEE TOMORROW +++++

Don't forget (as if we'd let you) the Eleventh Annual Concord Education Fund
Spelling Bee and Silent Auction, Saturday, November 20, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
in the CCHS auditorium. Also playing: renowned hypnotist Russ Burgess will
be in the upper gym at CCHS at 7 p.m., as he demonstrates ESP and hypnotism.
Come enjoy both events at the same time! (Just think, you'll only have to
park once.)

+++++ TEACHER APPRECIATION DINNER +++++

On Thursday, December 2, a dinner will be served to all the teachers and
staff in the faculty dining room during the evening of the teacher
conference day from 4:45 to 7 p.m. Parent volunteers decorate the dining
room and set up a hot meal which is served in two seatings during the
scheduled dinner breaks. Volunteers can participate by agreeing to prepare
food at home (state law does not permit use of the school kitchen), shop for
food and paper goods, set up, serve, or clean up (or any combination of
these). Each year we also request donations of baked goods and treats for
every teacher to take home. Interesting ideas have been honey with tea, a
coffee card in a commuter mug, jars of candy, baked breads, jams with
crackers, cheeses, even whole pies! We encourage parents to send thank you
cards and notes as well. We cannot guarantee that a specific teacher will
get your item but an appreciative teacher or administrator will. If you
would like to help in any of the ways described, please contact Kate Bird at
978-369-0100 or birds.house4 at verizon.net, Anita Tekle at
atekle at concordnet.org, or Janet Lipkin at joylip at comcast.net at as soon as
possible.
