+++++ PA MEETING/COFFEE +++++
Next Monday, February 7, there will be a Principal's Coffee at 8:30
a.m. in Room A-7. The Parents Association Meeting/Coffee, which is
usually on the second Monday, will also be held on the 7th at 7:30 p.m.
in the Library. This year evening PA meetings are similar to the
Principal's Coffee, providing parents who are unable to come to the
monthly daytime coffees a chance to hear about how things are going at
the school and to ask Principal Art Dulong about any items of concern.
CCHS Teacher Michael Vela of the Science Department will attend this
month's meeting. Robin Cicchetti will also present some information
about the CCTV community television station. Additional discussion
topics will include the recent results of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
and the Forum on Teen Depression and Suicide which took place Wednesday
night. Please join us for some lively conversation. Refreshments will be
served.
+++++ /MOUNTAINS BEYOND MOUNTAINS/ BOOK DISCUSSION +++++
Ed Cardoza, Director of Development for Partners In Health, and Evan
Lyon, resident in Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital
in Boston and a member of Partners In Health, will lead an open
discussion of award-winning author Tracy Kidder's /Mountains Beyond
Mountains/, Thursday, February 10, at 7 p.m. at CCHS. The evening is
part of a communitywide reading project organized by Concord Carlisle
Read. Talk. Share. The project's goal is to build community through a
shared reading experience, discussion, public events, and actions. The
book is the story of Dr. Paul Farmer, president of Partners In Health,
and his work bringing first-class medical care to the poorest of the
poor. Copies of the book are available at the Concord Free Public
Library, Gleason Public Library, and bookstores. The evening is
co-sponsored by Concord Carlisle Adult and Community Education.
Admission is free and open to the public. In addition to this evening
event, Concord Carlisle Read. Talk. Share. will sponsor an evening with
Tracy Kidder, March 9, and is working with local organizations and faith
communities to form book discussion groups.

+++++ WILLARD COFFEE +++++
You are welcome to attend a coffee on February 8, at 7 p.m. in the home
of Lynda Voghel (497 ORNAC, RSVP: 978-369-6885) to find out about what
is going on with the Willard building. At the coffee, you will hear
about the condition of the facility, view a photo tour of the building,
learn about the options for the school, and review the financial
implications. Did you know that the Willard building was discussed at
the Town Finance Committee meeting last week? Come find out more. Please
RSVP by calling the host, or go to http://www.buildwillard.org.
+++++ HEAD LICE FACTS AND PREVENTION +++++
Nits (lice eggs) are small yellowish-white, oval-shaped eggs that are
"glued" to the hair shaft at an angle. Once a nit is laid, it takes 7 to 10
days to hatch and another 7 to 10 days for the mature female to lay eggs.
Head lice are clear in color when first hatched and then develop a
reddish-brown color after feeding. They are the size of a sesame seed and
have six legs equipped with claws. They are wingless, crawling insects which
feed on human blood. They cannot hop, jump, or fly. Their life span is 30
days on a human host, during which time the females may lay up to 100 eggs.
They can live away from a human host for up to 48 hours. Transmission of
lice can occur either directly (hair to hair) or indirectly (e.g., sharing
of headgear). To prevent lice, use your own combs, brushes, barrettes, and
other personal items. Don't share or borrow hats, helmets, scarves, pillows,
or sleeping bags. Separate hats and coats so that they are not touching:
tuck hats into pockets or sleeves, keep jackets in backpacks. Use your own
sports headgear. Wear long hair tied back in ponytails, braids, or other
confining style. Screen weekly for head lice. For more information, go the
National Pediculosis Association website: www.headlice.org. (Information
provided by Janet Lipkin, for the Concord Carlisle Parent Initiative.)
+++++ ST. PATRICK'S DAY LUNCH FOR SENIOR CITIZENS +++++

Citizens on Saturday, March 12, at noon in the CCHS school cafeteria. Parent
volunteers are needed to help in the cafeteria. Shifts are from 9 a.m. to
noon, and noon to 3 p.m. Student volunteers are needed to serve for both
shifts. This is a traditional fun event! To volunteer, please call Maureen
Tarca at 978-287-0732 or e-mail to mqtarc at aol.com.
