+++++ SENIOR SAFARI PLANNING MEETING +++++
The next planning meeting for Senior Safari will be Tuesday night,
April 12, from 7:30 to 9 in room A-7 at CCHS. Parents of all the
classes at the high school are welcome to come and help committee
chairs prepare for this big all-night party following graduation. For

+++++ COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES PRESENTATION +++++
Learn how to help foster healthy communication among parents,
teachers, and school specialists. On Thursday, April 14, from
7:30 to 9 p.m. in the new Alcott School auditorium at 91 Laurel Street,
Concord, Communication Specialist Sally Heerde, M.Ed, CCC, will
present a talk on how best to communicate your student's needs at
IEP meetings. Ms. Heerde has 28 years of experience as a certified
speech-language pathologist. She has worked in a variety of settings
including public schools (elementary and secondary levels),
collaborative programs, and Boston's Children's Hospital. She is
currently at Innovative Learning Partners. She has extensive knowledge
of language, literacy, learning, and strategic teaching, and is a highly
skilled diagnostician, clinician, and educator. For directions and more

+++++ MARTIAL ARTS AT COMMUNITY EDUCATION +++++
Concord-Carlisle Adult & Community Education offers Jukido Jujitsu: A
Traditional Martial Art for Self-Defense, 6 Thursdays, April 28 through
June 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at CCHS. Learn a traditional Japanese
martial art
that focuses on practical, effective self-defense for anyone, regardless
of size and strength. For sixth-graders through adult. Students should wear
comfortable clothes and follow all safety guidelines. The fee is $108. To

+++++ ON THE SAME PAGE: CONCORD READS +++++
On Saturday, April 9, at 3 p.m., The Concord Free Public Library presents
David and Ginger Hildebrand in the program "Music at the Start of the
American Revolution" as the kick-off celebration for the Concord Reads
program. The musicians, dressed in eighteenth-century attire, will
perform music
featuring harpsichord, English flute, guitar, and hammered dulcimer.
The Hildebrands present concerts and educational programs
throughout the United States for museums, historical societies, and
sites, as
well as at universities for graduate and undergraduate students. They
appear
frequently at Colonial Williamsburg and Mount Vernon. Their music is
featured on several recent movies and television, such as the PBS series
"Liberty!" and C-Span's "American Presidents." Everyone is welcome to this
free concert which is part of the townwide reading program "On the Same
Page:
Concord Reads." The book selected is Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes,
winner of the 1944 Newbery Medal and one of the finest historical novels
ever
written for children. This classic tale chronicles the adventures of a
young
silversmith apprentice during the days before the American Revolution.
The Library has copies of Johnny Tremain in a variety of editions and
formats:
hardcover and paperback, large print, recorded CD, and tape and video.
Hardcover and paperback copies will also be available for purchase at a

On Wednesday, April 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Alcott Elementary
School (93
Laurel Street, Concord), the Concord Carlisle Parent Initiative (CCPI)
invites you
to come hear two Concord parents, Dr. Miriam Nelson and Dr. Christina
Economos,
describe the ways in which we can help children develop healthy
attitudes about
food, exercise, and body image. Dr. Nelson is Director of the Center for
Physical
Activity and an Associate Professor of Nutrition at the Friedman School
of Nutrition
Science and Policy at Tufts University. Dr. Economos is the Associate
Director of the
John Hancock Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition and an Associate
Professor

13-year-old eighth
grader and a 17-year-old senior and how to tailor parenting approaches.
