+++++ *C.C. POOLS ANNOUNCES $1M CHALLENGE GRANT* +++++
Non-profit C. C. Pools, Inc. has received an anonymous $1 million
challenge grant to
drive completion of the $9.5-million capital campaign for the Concord
Carlisle
Community Swim & Health Center. All contributions received by *December
31, 2005*,
will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1 million. The capital campaign
for the Center
has received $7.5 million in contributions and pledges from over 900
donors. When
complete, it will be given to the Town of Concord, the largest gift ever
given to the Town.
The Center is 75 percent complete and will open its doors in January. It
will be available
to everyone in Concord and Carlisle, including Town employees and their
families.
Gifts in any amount are appreciated. All gifts are tax deductible.

+++++ *RAPE AGGRESSION DEFENSE (RAD) SYSTEM OFFERED* +++++
The Concord Police will be offering RAD, Rape Aggression Defense
systems, Wednesday
evenings *October 5, 12, 19, 26, from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. *at the Thoreau
School gym (old
Alcott School). RAD is a self-defense course for females that offers a
safety lecture, physical
defense strategies, and realistic training scenarios. All training is
basic and easy to learn.
High-school-aged females are encouraged to participate in RAD. Class
size is limited but

+++++ *CCPI BOOK GROUP SERIES AT CONCORD PUBLIC LIBRARY* +++++
Identify your parenting hopes and dreams, uncover negative scripts, and
learn to communicate
more compassionately with your children. Find ways to bring out the best
in your children
through your parenting techniques. On *Tuesday, October 18 from 7 to 9
p.m.*, CCPI will present
the first title in our 2005-2006 book discussion series. Please join us
for an introduction to
/Raising Resilient Children/ by Robert Brooks and Sam Goldstein. The
discussion will be moderated
by Kathy Reticker, Early Childhood Specialist. CCPI is offering this
free program at the Concord
Public Library, Main Branch. It will also be offered on *Thursday,
November 3, at 9:30 a.m.* at the
Carlisle Public Schools Cafeteria. Reading the book is recommended, but

+++++ *FRIENDS OF CHEER TEAM PRESENT WORLD OF FASHION *+++++

*CCHS Friends of the Cheer Team is hosting "A World of Fashion" on
*November 20*.
Save the date! The event will begin with a fashion show from *3 to 5
p.m.* featuring
models that include Cheer Team members, CCHS athletes, parents, and
(we're hoping)
administrators, teachers, community leaders, and celebrities.
Immediately following the
show will be a VIP reception with refreshments. "A World of Fashion" is
being held in
conjunction with Simon Mall's "Evening of Giving," when shoppers are
invited to the
Burlington Mall, immediately following "A World of Fashion," for an
evening of private
shopping and entertainment. Tickets to both "A World of Fashion" and
Simon's "Evening
of Giving" are available at The Toy Shop and West Concord 5 & 10 in
Concord. Tickets
for these two events may be purchased separately at $10 per event. A
combination
ticket covering admission to both events will be available for a limited
time for a cost of
$15. Volunteers for "A World of Fashion" are needed; you do not need to
be affiliated with
the Cheer Team to volunteer. We currently need help in the following
areas: modeling,
recruitment of teachers and local celebrities, corporate contributions,
ticket sales, decoration
and setup, food and beverage service, wardrobe acquisition, hair
styling, make-up, scripting,

Parents of the Class of 2006 are cordially invited to a Wine Tasting
Social & Fundraiser
on *Saturday, October 15, from 7 to 9 p.m.* at the home of English and
Robert Ball,
89 Crescent Road, Concord. This is the first, last, and only parent
fundraiser ever held
for this class! Your $25 per person contribution will go directly to
offset costs for planned
senior week activities. Come and learn about moderately priced wines
from the experts at
Vintages in West Concord, socialize with other parents in the class, and
hear about what
the class officers as well as teacher and parent advisors for the Class
of 2006 have planned
for year-end activities. Contributions should be made out to "CCHS Class
of 2006" and

*+++++ *CCPOPS SPONSORS COSTUME DESIGN WORKSHOP* +++++
Students, faculty, and parents are invited to a workshop with costume
designer Frances
McSherry on *Wednesday, October 19, at 2:30 p.m. in room A7*. No experience
required. Frances McSherry has been a costume designer in the New York
and Boston
areas for the past 20 years. She received the 2003 IRNE Award for Best
Costume Design
for New Repertory's production of /Sweeney Todd/. She was the resident
costume designer
at Merrimack Repertory Theatre for five seasons. Off Broadway, she
designed Sam
Shepard's /Curse of the Starving Class/. For the New York City Opera,
she designed the
world premiere of /X, The Life and Times of Malcolm X/. Her work has
also been seen at
the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Glimmerglass Opera, the Sugan Theatre,
and the Lyric
Stage Company. She currently teaches theater design and designs costumes
at Northeastern

+++++* HARVARD OPPORTUNES A CAPPELLA GROUP AT CCHS* +++++
On *Saturday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m.* in the CCHS cafeteria, Harvard
University's premier
co-ed /a cappella/ group, the Harvard Opportunes, including CCHS
alumnus Gordon Kraft-Todd,
will be featured at a gala fundraiser to support the CCHS performing
arts program. The community
is invited to enjoy "A Time to Shine," an evening of talented
performers, fabulous desserts, and
fantastic raffle prizes. "A Time to Shine" is the major fundraising
event of Concord Carlisle Patrons
of Performing Students (CCPOPS), a non-profit organization created to
support the CCHS students
involved in the performing arts, including chorus, orchestra, band,
dance, drama, and the musicals.
Membership in CCPOPS is open to anyone willing to help. Admission for
the evening is $25 per
person and includes dessert and entertainment. Raffle tickets will be
available at the event. For tickets,
