Hello everyone,
You may have noticed some increased signage in front of the school around
the flagpole island. There are more signs coming. The Concord police and
fire Department have always expressed concerns about emergency access to
the front door area. I have also had concerns, but mine were mostly
related to people believing it was OK to park on the grass surface of the
island itself. This year the police have been working with me and the bus
company to design a safer parking and travel zone in front of the school.
You probably have already noticed that the driveway immediately beside
the caf is for bus traffic only in the AM (7-7:30). You have probably
noticed no parking signs on the island side of the driveway. Starting on
Monday November 14 there will also be no parking adjacent to the caf from
7:00AM-3:00PM. Yes, that means I lose what people refer to as my parking
space (although, I will share that if I do not get there early enough
someone takes that, too.) Starting that Monday the afternoon busses that
usually park adjacent to A and L buildings will pick the students up at
the cafeteria roadway (bus traffic only 1:45PM -2:15PM) . Parents who are
picking up students after school will either be directed toward the
student parking lot or pick up on the roadway adjacent to A and L
buildings. The police will be closely monitoring this (including
ticketing) for as long as it takes for it to become common practice.
We all will be a on a learning curve for a while, but the police and fire
personnel believe we will ultimately have a safer driveway area at the
front of the building. Thanks in advance for your cooperation as we make
this small "culture shift".
