Hello to all,

The English Language portion of the MCAS test will be administered to all
sophomores next week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (3/28-3/30). The
administration of the test must be on those days. We are required to
follow standardized testing protocols created by the Mass. DOE.
This affects every member of CCHS in some way.

Sophomores - They will report to the cafeteria each morning and await
further instructions. After about 10 minutes they will proceed to assigned
classrooms in the H Building. Mostly, they are alphabetically grouped, but
students who require some special accommodation for the test will report
to an area assigned by their sped teacher, tutor, or counselor. The state
gives us an estimated time necessary for the test, but the tests are
untimed. Students can take as long as they need, with the proviso that
they must finish that day.

Rest of school - Many classes have been moved from their usual H Building
meeting rooms. Teachers will tell students where they will meet if their
class is affected. On Wednesday and Thursday the schedule for the day has
been modified. On Wednesday G Block will meet first and A Block will meet
last. On Thursday H Block meets second and C Block meets last. Louisa
Coleman will be sending the schedule as an attachment to another email.

Please do all you can to ensure sophomores are in attendance next week
for the testing days. Any portion of the test that is missed must be made
up. Due to the untimed nature of the make-up, it must be started early in
the day. Thus make-up exams take students out of classes on that day as
well.

Also, please assure your children that they will do fine on the test.
Students sometimes get overly anxious about the exam because of its
importance. Certainly, it is important, but over the years we have learned
that it is a very manageable test for nearly every student at CCHS. They
should approach the exam confidently, knowing that they have been well
prepared.
