Good morning,
Yes, I hear weather reports, too. Although the forecast is not terrible,
I thought I'd better take this opportunity to explain various
contingencies.
First of all, the overriding goal is to have a graduation ceremony
outdoors. It is much nicer. Everyone who wants to come can come. Nobody
needs to feel squeezed by cramped quarters. Therefore, please understand
that unless we are faced with a forecast of pouring rain, we will be
outside. Drizzle, light rain, showers - all outside.
The next thing is that if a decision has to be made about out or in it
has to be made by 10AM. It is not something that can be done at the last
minute. If the forecast does not include a prediction of heavy rain you
should assume an outdoor ceremony. There will be no message sent. If the
forecast does include a prediction of heavy rain I will send out an email
with a decision by 10AM or very shortly thereafter.
Assuming we had to move indoors, tickets are required. Each graduate has
been given 4 tickets for the gym and 2 tickets for the auditorium. That
has to be strictly enforced. Those numbers would have us technically over
the fire code limits in each place and therefore I'll have to secure fire
personnel to help monitor the school that afternoon. Without doubt, you
will find the gym a very cramped space and every seat in the auditorium
filled. The ceremony will be broadcast onto the "movie" size screen in the
auditorium.
I hope the sun will shine or at least glimmer through cloud cover because
I want the graduation to be as nice as possible for you, your guests, and
the graduates.
See you on Saturday. Bring sunblock.
