Hello to all,
I am forwarding this invitation because I think Marilee Jones has an
important message that it is good for parents to hear. I hope you'll have
time to come to the program described below.

All Parents are invited to attend a program on navigating the college
admissions process Thursday evening October 5 in CCHS auditorium 7:30-9!
The Concord Carlisle Parents Association, in collaboration with the Center
for Parents and Teachers, invites parents to a program featuring Marilee
Jones, Dean of Admissions at MIT, who will speak on the topic of Less
Stress, More Success: Negotiating the College Admissions Process in the
Era of Spin. This program will take place on Thursday, October 5th, from
7:30-9:00 PM in the CCHS Auditorium, 500 Walden Street, Concord.
In this presentation for parents, Ms. Jones will discuss how the college
admissions process has become so confusing and its accompanying pressure
so intense that it is making many parents crazed and over-involved and
some kids sick. She will also offer insight into the realities of college
admissions and explain how to approach the college search and application
process with clarity and sanity. The big questions will be answered: How
much help is too much help? How can parents involvement actually harm
their child? How can parents most effectively support kids through this
crucial period without losing their composure, dignity, humor, and minds?
While this program is especially pertinent to parents of high schoolers,
it also promises to offer useful advice to parents of students in all
grades (including elementary and middle school) to empower them to help
their children develop the skills they will need to stay healthy and
resilient in this era of high pressure.
Marilee Jones has achieved national prominence as a spokesperson on the
changes in todays college admissions climate, speaking out against the
pressures it induces in both students and parents. She is the co-author of
Less Stress, More Success: Guiding Your Child Through the College
Admissions Process and Beyond, which was published this September. She is
also the mother of a college freshman and a Concord resident.
There is a $5 suggested donation payable at the door (to support future
programs) and pre-registration is recommended. Please call the Center for
Parents and Teachers at 978-202-1146 or email amartinez at colonial.net .
