Sped Pac Announcement
In the next two weeks, there are several local workshops of interest to
parents of children with learning challenges.
On Thursday evening, October 16th, Concord SEPAC is hosting a workshop
called *Transition to Work for Young People with Learning Disabilities*.
The presenter, Barbara Bissonnette, will provide practical strategies
that parents can use to help their adolescent succeed in the critical
first work experiences. The workshop is from 7:00-9:00 in the Alcott

Also on October 16th, the Lincoln Sudbury SpedPac is hosting Renee and
Marvin Goldberg's workshop, *College Planning for those with Attention
or Learning Differences. *The workshop will address considerations
specific to college-bound students with learning challenges, and
recommend a plan of action. The workshop is free and will be held at
Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School from 7:00-9:00. See

On October 22, the Federation for Children with Special Needs is
presenting their *Understanding your Basic Rights Workshop* from 7:00
-9:00 pm at the Ripley Building. The workshop provides families with an
introduction to their rights mandated by the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Special Education Law,
and No Child Left Behind. It is designed to help parents learn how to be
effective partners with the school in deciding their child's eligibility
for special education, planning services, and monitoring the progress of
their child. The workshop is free. In order to insure sufficient

On October 16th, Ellen Chambers, president of SPEDWatch, is presenting
her *Basic Rights: Denied *workshop. /(There will be other opportunities
to attend this workshop throughout the year at other locations.)
/Parents will learn how to handle the most common obstacles they may
face at each stage of the special education process. The workshop will
be held at Minute Man Arc, 130C Baker Avenue Extension, from 6:00-9:00,
and costs $35 ($25 for SPEDWatch members). See
