[CCHS] CCHS School Budget Revisions Update - from the CCHS Parents Association

Dear Parents,

 

As you may have heard, the Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee acted
on Tuesday night to reduce the recently approved high school budget in line
with anticipated cuts in state funding. An expected shortfall of
approximately $580,000 in state funds would be addressed as follows:

 

Expense reductions of approximately $475,000 achieved by: 

 

*	Reduction in book purchases and internet services for the library
($9,500)
*	Use of non-budget funds to pay for campus monitor position ($23,000)

*	Elimination of 3.5% budgeted increase in supplies ($17,000)
*	Reduction in professional development programs ($35,000) 

*	Reduction in capital outlays ($45,000)
*	Reduction of teaching staff FTEs (full time equivalents) of 4.75
(several retirements and resignations have already been announced)
($274,000)
*	Reduction in central office staff ($61,200)
*	Reduced clerical support hours ($10,000)

 

Revenue increases of approximately $135,000 gained from:

 

*	Parking fees increased to $250 from $125 (296 spaces x 95%
utilization x $125 = $35,000)
*	Sports fees increased to $200 per student per season ($600 - $800
cap per family per season) vs. $125 (1,000 students X $75 = $75,000)
*	Activity fees for all students of $20 (1250 x $20 = $25,000)

 

Offset by $100,000 added expenses for unemployment insurance compensation.

 

This totals a $510,000 expense reduction or approximately 90% of the
anticipated cuts required for the FY 2009-2010 Budget.  

 

While the question of reductions to the athletic budget was raised, we are
not aware of an actual vote to that effect at the meeting.    

 

The CCHS Parents Association has communicated to members of the school
administration and school committee our interest in establishing a forum at
which these challenging issues can be discussed with parents.  Until such a
meeting is scheduled, please remember that there is one remaining
Superintendent's Tea, on the afternoon of Friday June 5th at 2:30 p.m. at
the high school library.
