TUESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2010 

A reminder to all students and staff, Tuesday, January 19 will be Monday’s
schedule.

The CCHS Main Office and Concord Police Department has received complaints
regarding speeding motor vehicles in the parking by both parents and
students, primarily during the morning drop off.  Please be aware of your
speed.  Also as a reminder, there is no parking around the flagpole island
at anytime, it is a fire lane.

FAMILY VACATIONS AND END OF YEAR ABSENCE 
Parents and students are reminded that Massachusetts Law requires
compulsory attendance for students. We strongly discourage family
vacations when school is in session. In addition to compromising the
attendance law, family vacations interrupt the educational process of each
course in ways that make-up work cannot reverse. If family vacations are
planned, an email (pbadalament at colonial.net) from the parent/guardian must
be submitted to the principal at least 1 month before the vacation date.
Please note that teachers are not required to make special provisions for
students who miss school for family vacations.

A sophomore student is organizing a Troop Snack Drive during the month of
January.~ Our troops are in need of American snacks.~ In particular, nuts,
jerky, seeds, granola bars and candy that will not melt, and they must be
individually wrapped.~~~A drop-off box is in the Main Office. ~Please
donate what you can for our troops overseas!!

The Lost and Found is located in the Cafeteria, it is overflowing, please
reminder your student to look there if they have lost any items.  It will
be donated to Goodwill Friday, January 22, 2010

Model UN will be meeting TODAY at 5:30 in H-04.  All are welcome!

Attention BookPALS participants, your second letter to your Condon School
book buddy is due on TODAY to Mr. Woodnal in the English Office Room H-13.

On Wednesday there is a meeting for all tennis players interested in
playing for CCHS this spring. The meeting starts at 2:30 in room H-10. If
you cannot make the meeting, please see Mr. Spence.

Extended Hours at Concord Free Public Library on Sunday of Midterm Week
On Sunday, January 24th the Concord Free Public Library in Concord  Center
will be opened from 10AM - 10PM to give CCHS students the opportunity to
study for midterms in groups or individually.  Snacks will be served and
all students are welcome.  Library staff and a group of parent volunteers
will be at the Library during these hours.   Please visit

Do you need community service hours?  The Summer Opportunities Fair needs
volunteers to set-up and clean-up on February 1st.  Contact Zach Burns

Summer Fun in February - Save the Date!
CCHS Summer Opportunities Fair - Monday, February 1
Come join us at the 29th Annual Summer Opportunities Fair to be held
Monday, February 1, 2010, from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. (snow date is February 2)
in the CCHS cafeteria.~ This event provides parents and students from K-12
the means to explore some exciting alternatives to the usual summer
activities, and brings together representatives from approximately 90
organizations to present summer opportunities held locally, nationally and
aboard.~ Exhibitors will be present to display information on wilderness
adventures, educational and enrichment opportunities, foreign language and
student exchange programs and~volunteer opportunities, as well as
traditional, sports and special-needs camps.~ This event is sponsored by
the CCHS Parents' Association.~

Concord Conservatory of Music Jazz Instruction
Registration for The Concord Conservatory of Music’s winter semester group
classes and private instrument instruction is now open.~ The music school
has launched a new Jazz program.~ Jazz is spontaneous and fun; it expands
the imagination and sharpens the mind. Jazz combines note reading and
improvisation and promotes rhythmic flexibility with an emphasis on the
social aspects of music making.~ CCM offers the study of private Jazz
instruction on all instruments. Every student of Jazz needs to develop not
only awareness and understanding of jazz tradition, but a personal style
within the tradition. This course of study is designed to develop
improvisation skills which will lead to playing in an ensemble setting CCM
private students and outside students will be grouped in small ensembles
according to experience and level. Registrations are accepted online, in

SAT I Preparation Winter 2010
The Community Education department sponsors Summit Education Group classes
in order to expand the choices for students who elect to use a course with
a test preparation organization. Three courses are scheduled for CCHS, in
addition to the Kaplan program that is conducted independently by Kaplan.
These courses consist of 40 hours of preparation, including a diagnostic
test to assess strengths and weaknesses and practice tests to assess
progress throughout the program. Summit's SAT preparation balances
academic skills like algebra, critical reading and grammar with essential
test-taking strategies, to offer a comprehensive and effective preparation
program for all students. May 2010 test 12 Tuesdays, January 26-April 27,

a student-funded community service of theConcord-Carlisle Schools.  To

Instrumental Music Lessons - Second Semester the Instrumental Music School
of Carlisle and Concord (IMSCC) welcomes new students for the
Winter/Spring session starting in January. Now a fee-based program of the
Community Education Department, IMSCC was established 30 years ago by the
schools to provide after school lessons. MSCC offers individual lessons on
all band and orchestral instruments, as well as piano, voice, guitar and
bass guitar, and a Chamber Music program for small ensemble playing.
Lessons are given at CCHS, Sanborn, Peabody, and Carlisle Schools.
Registration is now open for Winter/Spring classes.
