Dear CCHS Parents,
*The Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle Regional School District is
reestablishing the schools' Wellness Committee.* The high school will have
two parent volunteer positions on this committee as will the other Concord
schools, school administrators and a high school student representative.
*Volunteers should have an interest in and qualifications associated
with the fields of nutrition and/ or health and wellness and must be
available to attend committee meetings. The first meeting is on Tuesday,
Feb. 9, 3:30-5 pm at the Ripley Building. At that time the committeee will
review the current status of the lunch program, nutrition concerns, and the
immediate goals to be accomplished by June 2010.
*
*The remaining monthly meeting schedule is Mondays, March 8, April 12, May
10, June 14, 3:30-5 pm, Ripley Administration Building, 120 Meriam Road.*
For your background, in 2006, Kathy Bowen, K12 Health Coordinator, formed a
K12 Wellness committee to develop recommendations for the Wellness Policy to
support physical activity and nutrition for K12 students. In June 2006, the
School Committees approved the Wellness Policy and procedures were
established for nutritional quality of foods and beverages sold and served
on campus, nutrition education and promotion, physical activity
opportunities, Physical Education and policy review/monitoring.
In November 2009, BonnIe Hardy, Food Services Director, Rob Colantuono,
Principal, Thoreau, and Diana Rigby, Concord and CCHS Superintendent, met
with several interested parents to discuss the school lunch program. During
the meeting concerns about school lunches, goals to improve the nutritional
quality of lunches, model lunch programs in local districts, and local
resources were discussed.
At the recent Parent Associations/PTGs Presidents' meeting in January 2010,
it was recommended that the district reestablish the Wellness Committee to
assist Bonnie Hardy, Food Services Director, to improve the nutritional
quality of school lunches. Committee membership will comprise of 2 parent
representatives from each school, a school administrator, CMS Health
teacher, and a student from the High School. Monthly meetings will be held
for the remainder of the school year at Ripley Administration Building.
*If you have an interest in participating, please contact Linda Miller, CCHS

volunteers provide so many valuable services for our students and families
throughout the Concord and Concord-Carlisle schools.*
