The Lexington-Concord Chapter of AFCEA is pleased to offer competitive
Fellowship Awards again this year to graduating high school students. The
purpose is to stimulate an appreciation and desire to purse a career in
engineering or computer science. Fellows will receive a $1,500 cash
scholarship and the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience with
a local company earning a minimum of $450 per week during a ten-week
summer program.
The feedback we received from students and sponsoring companies has been
overwhelmingly positive. In fact, many students feel the work experience
is worth more than the monetary award, and the sponsors have frequently
continued an employment relationship with the student during their college
careers and after graduation. Last year, we received 45 applications and
32 students were selected to work in companies such as Raytheon, MITRE,
and BAE Systems. We expect similar corporate participation this year.
I have enclosed application procedures for your consideration. Since
only two students per school is allowed to apply, it is very important
that the student is willing to commit to participate in the ten-week
summer work program and has a strong background in Information
Technology-related coursework and/or experience. Additionally, since some
students will be provided with a temporary security clearance, we ask that
they be US citizens. If youd like to learn more about AFCEA please visit
our chapter website at [ http://www.afceaboston.com/

If you are interested in participating, please Call Claire Goulet at
781-676-7344 or email her at cgoulet at oasissystems.com by February 5,
2010. Please return the application, along with the students scholastic
transcript, SAT scores, teacher recommendations, and your assessment of
the applicant's qualifications by February 19, 2010 to Claire Goulet,
Oasis Systems, 81 Hartwell Avenue, Lexington, MA 02421. The successful
candidates will be notified in April and will be honored at an awards
banquet at the Hanscom Air Force Base in May.
Sincerely,
Shannon Sullivan
