Applications are now being accepted for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
also known as the RYLA. The weekend conference to take place from June 25
to June 27, 2010. Information and application in the March Newsletter, on
the sophomore list serve, or see Mrs. Coleman in the main office.

Girls Social Forum Group is starting up again this semester. Come and join
us in the A-5 kitchen. There will be weekly activities, music, food and
special topics. We need your input on topics, which could include topics
such as social action, cultural and political issues, music, art, and
media. Group will be TODAY E-block and Thursday F-Block this week.

Sophomore Parent Meeting Tonight:
Interested in how you can support a successful high school experience for
your child? Want to know how to help your adolescent be on target for the
college admissions process? Both of these questions will be answered in
the Sophomore Parent Meeting, TODAY at 7:00 pm in the CCHS Little Theatre.

~All Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior swimmers and divers please meet in
Mr. Goldberg's room, S-3, right after school on TODAT~at 2:15 for a quick
meeting.~ If you can't make it, please contact Katie Vogel.

Sci-fi Club finally has an answer to the age-old question, "If a giant
shark fought a giant octopus, who would win?"  Find out by joining us
TODAY at 2:30 in H-12 to watch the movie MEGA-SHARK VERSUS GIANT OCTOPUS,
starring - yes - 80s pop sensation Debbie Gibson.  All this, and free
pizza, too.  All are welcome. 

Make sure you sign up to audition for the CCHS talent show BEFORE 10pm on
Sunday (March 7th)! To signup, send an email to Tess Schubert at

act, type of act, and any special equipment or setup required.  Students
and faculty welcome!

Green Revolution meets TODAY after school in S-16 at 2:20.  Come be a part
of the new environmental club!  The Infrared camera and home energy
analysis equipment is in.  Come check it out.  We will be Imaging the
School and maybe your home!  Come with your great ideas!

Green Revolution presents its third film, THE GREAT SQUEEZE, about future
of the human race.  Come see the film and get community service credit on
March 9th at 6:30 in the Little Theater. 

If you missed Wonderful Town, you have another chance this weekend! Friday
at 7:30 Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2:30, tickets are now available
online at www.ticketstage.com and during all lunch blocks today through
next week or at the door. Students and Seniors $10 Adults $15. 

WIQH needs your artistic talent... '48 for 88' is the WIQH event of the
year...a 48-hour marathon broadcast coming later this year, and we need
your help to design a logo that will do justice to this fantastic event.
Stop by WIQH or the WIQH bulletin board to get more information on this
contest. All entries are due by Monday the 15th.

Great victory on Sunday for the Boys Varsity Hockey Team, beating Lowell
7-1.~~Join us to cheer on the~Patriot's~as they advance to the Division 3
North Semi Finals this Thursday, March 4th at 8:15 PM at the Chelmsford
Forum.~ Once again, we're planning a "WHITE OUT" let's bring it up another
notch.~ Everyone wear white!!!~ GO CC!!!!!

There will be a bake sale this Friday, March 5, to support CCHS's first
community service trip to Madagascar! Come to the cafe after school to
support classmates, and to buy delicious treats!"

Come feel the burn at Yoga Club this Thursday from 2:30-3:30 in the gym
modular. We will practice Yoga Burn with Rodney Yee! All are welcome!
Attention creative writers, the deadline for the Short Story and
Non-Fiction contests has been extended to Monday, March 8. In an effort to
get more creative writers to submit, the minimum length of each submission
has been reduced to 1250 words. Please email or deliver you submissions to
Lucy Fandel or Mr. Pickman and have fun writing!

Attention BookPALS participants, our final trip to the Condon School in
Boston is next Tuesday, March 9.  (Please note the date change from the
original list!)  The bus will leave promptly at 2:15 from the main
entrance in front of the cafeteria.

Attention Seniors: Need community service hours or just simply want to
spend an afternoon with the senior citizens of Concord and Carlisle? Then
sign up for the CCHS St. Patrick's Day Luncheon on Saturday, March 13.

Traces of the Trade film screening & discussion:~Friday, March 5th~at 7:00
pm
Come see the award-winning film~Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep
North,~documenting the DeWolf family’s journey to retrace their legacy of
Northern slave trading – from Rhode Island to slave forts in Ghana to
sugar plantation ruins in Cuba. A discussion with family members follows
the film. Historian Jayne Gordon will address the life stories and
struggle for freedom of early African residents of Concord, as well as the
town’s leadership in the Abolitionist movement. ~Come find out how the
Drinking Gourd Project is leading an effort to save the Caesar Robbins
house, built in 1780 by a freed man and Revolutionary War patriot. The
goal is to move the house close to its original location near The North
Bridge and restore it as an educational center focused on Concord’s
African & Abolitionist history.~This free event will be held at The
Concord Art Association, 37 Lexington Road, Concord, MA 01742. For further

The Concord Police Department and the Concord Rotary will be sponsoring
RAD for adult females. RAD is Rape Aggression Defense Systems, which is a
realistic self-defense program teaching risk reduction and avoidance
strategies, including hands-on defense training. RAD is not a martial arts
program. This is a four-week course using simple and easy to learn
techniques, providing an effective and proven method of self-defense for
females. High School females are encouraged to participate. RAD classes
will be held Tuesday evenings March 9, 16, 23 and 30, from Class 6:30PM to
approximately 8:45PM. The first class will be held at the Concord Police
Department. The remaining classes will be held at the Alcott School
gymnasium. Class size is limited, to register or for more information

CCHS Driver Education Classes begin in April and June. Limited enrollment,
early sign-up advised. You must be 15 years 10 months to begin, and 16 by
the final classroom date. Behind-the-wheel instruction is part of the
program, and you can begin after you take your first classroom section if
you have your Learners Permit. You should finish your required
behind-the-wheel time within one year. Enrollment information at [

CCHS Driver Education: Parent Class
The next Parent Class for CCHS Driver Ed will be held TONIGHT 7-9 PM in L
Bldg. The Registry requires this course for parents of students in CC
Driver Ed. If you plan to take a spring or summer Driver Ed course at
CCHS, come on March 3, or the next class, May 10. No pre-registration is
required.

Student Volunteer President’s Service Award Applications Due April 1
CCHS students have a requirement to complete 40 hours of community service
in order to graduate.~However, many students go far beyond that minimal
requirement out of interest or commitment to the concept of community
service as a responsibility.~ 
The President’s Volunteer Service Award, signed by President Barack Obama,
and is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer
service and civic participation over the course of a 12-month
period.~Students must serve more than 100 hours per any 12 month period to
be eligible. There are three categories of award; Bronze Award 100-174
hours; Silver Award 175-249 hours and the Gold Award for more than 250
hours per 12 months.

Community Service and Internship Opportunities
Concord Public Schools - Summer SchoolAt the Alcott School
Monday to Friday, 9 AM to Noon, June 28 to July 23
Interested CCHS students may apply for a limited number of volunteer
teacher-assistant positions. Required: a serious commitment to helping
elementary school students and their teachers in a high-quality summer
program of math and language arts. Positions are also available with
morning and afternoon science and art programs for children.  Email
