[CMS-2011] Get Involved at Concord Middle School - Volunteer!

[CMS Class of 2011 Announcements]

Dear Middle School Parents, 

 

We are in the process of forming the CMS PTG volunteer slate for the
2008-2009 school year.  Many thanks to parents who have offered to continue
on in volunteer positions they held last year or have already contacted us
to volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to get to know other parents, feel
more connected to our middle school community and enrich the middle school
experience for our children.  We would like to give all middle school
parents the opportunity to get involved.

 We are in need of volunteers in the following roles:

Missive Editor - We need one volunteer to coordinate the monthly e-mail
newsletter.  A template is provided and all content (articles, event
reminders and dates) are submitted for publication. General typing and
computer skills necessary.

Directory - One person to update and maintain the CMS parent database and
produce the student directory.  A Microsoft Access program is used to
generate class lists for e-mail communications and to produce the school
directory.  This position has most of the work over the summer and the
beginning of the school year. Familiarity with MS Access a plus.

Class Representatives - Act as liaisons between the school and the
individual grades.  Plan several grade specific social events for students
and parents during the school year.

Garden Committee Chair - Coordinate the volunteers (list of interested
parents provided) to work on beautification of the grounds at both Peabody
and Sanborn.  Modest time commitment in the Fall and Spring.

Metco Family Reps - Act as a liaison between Metco families and the school.


New Family Coordinators - We need one volunteer from Peabody (already have
one from Sanborn) to call new families before the school year starts to
welcome them to the school and answer any questions they may have.  Also,
the volunteers would be responsible for arranging a tour of the school for
new families and arranging one casual social event (meet for ice cream at
Bedford Farms).

Spirit Coordinator - This person would coordinate the purchase and sale of
school t-shirts, sweatshirts and other CMS items throughout the school year.


Teacher Appreciation Coordinators (Peabody parent) - This person would work
with the co-chair from last year, to coordinate several events (brunch,
raffle) to honor our teachers.  A list of volunteers who are willing to
contribute food items and staff events would be provided.  

Conference Day Dinner Coordinators  -  We need one Sanborn parent to work
last year's volunteer and the Peabody volunteers from last year  to
coordinate dinner for the staff on Conference Day in December.  A list of
volunteers who are willing to contribute food items and staff events would
be provided.  

Please consider volunteering.  Many of these positions require a modest time
commitment, but go a long way towards enriching our middle school community.
